First Login and Freigabe-PIN: Setting Up Your Wüstenrot App Securely
Your first login to the Wüstenrot App is where the security foundations of your account are laid. Two secrets are created here: your password and your Freigabe-PIN.
The first-login sequence
- Install the Wüstenrot App from the official store.
- Enter your Verfügernummer (from the e-mail) and the one-time password (from the SMS).
- Set a new personal password.
- Set a five-digit Freigabe-PIN.
After this, the smartphone is registered as your primary device.
What is the Freigabe-PIN for?
Wüstenrot uses the approval PIN for all security-relevant changes and approvals, for example:
- approving transfers and standing orders,
- changing your transfer limit,
- looking up your card's ePIN,
- adjusting Geocontrol (regional card usage),
- blocking an account or card.
Choosing a good password
- Use a long passphrase — four or more random words is easier to remember and harder to guess than a short complex string.
- Never reuse a password from e-mail, shopping or social media accounts.
- A password manager is the safest place to store it.
Choosing a good PIN
- Avoid birthdays, 12345, 11111 or patterns on the keypad.
- Do not use the same digits as your bank card PIN or phone unlock code.
- Never write the PIN on paper kept with your phone.
